A new house in Annemarie's Neighborhood

Here is my contribution to Annemarie's neighborhood. Annemarie had left us free to stitch whatever. It did not even have to be a house. I chose this design. It is called "Ottawa Tulips" and it is by a Canadian designer - X's and Oh's. I had a specific reason for choosing this one. I wanted to add a little bit of Canada to her piece. During the Second World War, Canada sheltered Queen Juliana of the Netherlands and she gave birth to her third daughter, Margriet, in Ottawa. They designated land at the hospital as Dutch so she could be born in Holland. Each year since then Holland has donated tulip bulbs to Canada in thanks. There are literally millions of tulips planted in Ottawa - Canada's Capital - and the city has a huge tulip festival there every May.
The building is the Peace Tower in the center block of Canada's Parliament buildings.

Wow, Kathy, you did an amazing job! Thank you for merging a bit of your country with a bit of mine, and for telling us this tidbit of information surrounding the birth of Princess Margriet. I didn't know any of this! Well, I knew she was born in Canada, but that's about it. Also, I just happen to LOVE stitched tulips :o)

It is beautifull and just perfect. By the Way Margriet is also a dutch flower name, I believe in englisch it is the Marigold, but not totally sure.
By the way like Annemarie I didn;t know the rest, only that she was born in Canada.

I just read Judith's comment and wanted to say that 'margriet' is 'daisy' in English. Thought you might like to know :o)

This was such a thoughtful choice for the RR. The tulips are so appropriate and I loved the story behind them. I pay a visit to the Tulip Festival in Ottawa each year and was unaware of the full story.
